How to Keep Those Resolutions

So we’re five days into the New Year, have you broken your resolution yet?  If not, great!  Keep at it.  If you have (like me), call mulligan and start over.  (A good friend of mine told me you have until the 11th to renew your resolution, I’m apt to take his advice.)  If you are struggling, though, here are some tips to help you achieve your goal.

1. KISS (aka Keep It Simple Stupid)  The harder your goals, the easier it is to give up on them.  Say you want to lose weight.  Instead of saying you’re going to lose 30 pounds by your next birthday, aim to lose a pound a week.  A pound a week isn’t as intimidating as 30 and who  knows, you might even lose more than 30 by your birthday!

2. Stay focused  When you feel like hanging it up, remind yourself why you made that resolution in the first place.  Chances are, you’ll stick at it a little longer.

3.  Have a plan and track your progress Get an extra calendar and cross out everyday that you keep your resolution.  It’s hard to convince yourself that you’re not doing well when the proof is staring you in the face.

4. Predict Potential Disasters Know what your triggers are and how to neutralize them.  Or reach out to a friend who you know can get you back on track.

5. Reward Yourself Celebrate your successes, but don’t compromise your resolution

    I just didnt’ make any resolutions this year. I never keep them LOL.

    some resolutions i can do on my own, but seriously? going to the gym? way better, i am finding, to find someone with similar workout goals and become gym buddies 🙂
