Banking those Zzzzs

Ever wish you could store up sleep for those days when you know you won’t be getting many zzzzs?  Turns out you can.

According to a study out of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, getting extra sleep before a period of sleep deprivation can lessen the effects of lost sleep.

Says one researcher:

“What we’re basically saying is if you fill up your reserves and pay back your sleep debt ahead of time, you’re better equipped to deal with the sleep loss challenge.”

It remains unclear how much sleep an individual needs to benefit. 

As for those of you who just can’t seem to get to bed early, researchers say getting the extra sleep from naps is just as beneficial.  As for those of you who claim you can’t nap…well…how about we just leave that for another post.
